West Point, NY 2 Seven different players scored goals as the Army lacrosse team kicked off its 2007 season with a 7-6 victory over Marist, Saturday at Michie Stadium.

The Black Knights scored 12 seconds into the game and never trailed in winning their season-opener for the first time since 2000.

Hunter Wakeland had a goal and two assists while Jay Larson scored once and had an assist, as did Jason Peyer. Brooks Korvin, Justin Bokmeyer, Kevin LoRusso and Tyler Seymour also scored for Army.

Black Knights goalie Adam Fullerton made nine saves and the Black Knights held a 32-27 advantage in shots on goal.

"Our guys respected Marist and went out and played hard from beginning to end," Army coach Joe Alberici said. "We battled some ups and downs throughout the game but in the end we came out on top. I am proud of our group. We had a lot of guys getting their first extensive experience and they handled it well. Numbers is our strength and we utilized that today with seven different players scoring and four players taking faceoffs."

Nick Hautau scored three times for Marist, now 0-1, while Pete O'Hara had two goals.

Army started fast, with a goal by Wakeland just 12 seconds into the contest. It was one of four unassisted goals. Korvin also scored in the first quarter, off of a Larson assist, which ended in a 2-2 tie.

Bokmeyer scored an unassisted goal early in the second quarter. Marist again tied the game but Tyler Seymour scored off a Wakeland pass during an extra man opportunity to give the Black Knights a 4-3 lead at intermission.

Marist tied the game early in the second half before Army scored three straight goals for its biggest lead of the game. Peyer and LoRusso scored in the final six minutes of the third quarter and Larson three minutes into the final quarter. Marist scored twice in the final nine minutes but could not tie the game.

The Black Knights will head to Syracuse for a 7 p.m. contest Friday in the Carrier Dome.
