Philadelphia 2 Drexel held Saint Joseph's scoreless in the first quarter and allowed just one goal in each of the following quarters while Andrew Chapman tallied four goals as the Dragons topped the Hawks, 11-3. Drexel improved to 2-1 on the season while the Hawks dropped to 0-3.
The Dragons scored the first six goals of the game including two from Chapman to cap the run. The Hawks finally got on the scoreboard with just 37 seconds remaining in the second quarter as the teams headed to halftime with Drexel holding a 6-1 lead.
Drexel put the game out of reach after intermission as Joe Variano, Mike Filippone and Chapman each scored to widen the Dragons' lead to 9-1. Freshman Zak Fisher was stellar in face-off duty as he won 5-of-7 faceoffs while teammate Nick Kusturiss was a perfect 3-for-3 as Drexel won 11 of the game's 16 face-offs.
Drexel out shot Saint Joseph's, 32-21, and picked up 15 groundballs to the Hawks' 11.
The Dragons return to the field on Tuesday, March 6 in Drexel's home opener against Binghamton. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
