Saints Streak Past Hartford, 8-5
Men's Lacrosse Earns Third Straight Victory on the Road

Hartford, Conn. - Siena goalkeepers Brent Herbst (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) and Brian Cordts (Northport, N.Y./Northport) combined for 16 saves helping the Saints to an 8-5 victory at Hartford (1-8) this afternoon. Attackmen Matt Girsh (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), Matt Donovan (Northport, N.Y.) and Ryan Duggan (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) registered two goals apiece leading Siena (5-3, 2-0) to their third straight win.

Senior co-captain Michael Aylward (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) dished out back-to-back assists which led to two Saints goals and gave Siena a 2-0 advantage. With 34 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Aylward found Jake Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) for the first score of the contest. Then just 48 seconds into the second quarter he delivered a feed to Donovan who also found the back of the net.

The Saints entered the half with a 3-2 lead thanks to a solid defensive effort and eight saves from Herbst. Today's victory marks Herbst third of the season.

Siena came out of the half rejuvenated as they rallied for four unanswered goals to give themselves a comfortable 7-2 advantage. Freshman midfielder Shaun Dunn (Amityville, N.Y./Chaminade) opened up the scoring streak when he beat his defender at the top of the box and blasted a shot into the top right corner. Duggan, Girsh and Donovan followed with the next three goals to wrap up the third quarter.

Hartford made a late fourth quarter run, but this proved to be too little too late as Siena went on to defeat their second America East opponent of the season. Cordts completed the second half in net with eight saves.

With the victory, the Saints improve to 4-2 in road contests this season. Siena returns to action on Saturday when they host Mount Saint Mary's for a conference showdown. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. on Siena Field.
