No. 2 NYIT Dominates Dominican to Improve to 7-0
Blauvelt, NY (4/10/07 - The Dominican College Chargers lacrosse team dropped an East Coast Conference (ECC) game to undefeated New York Institute of Technology, 20-5 this afternoon at the DC Lacrosse Field.
Dominican held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter behind three consecutive goals by Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB). NYIT responded with five goals in the second quarter to take a 7-4 lead into halftime and exploded for nine unanswered goals in the third to lead 16-4 after three quarters of play. The Bears added on four goals in the fourth to Dominican's lone goal with 9:28 left in the game, en route to the 20-5 victory.
The Bears were led by Al Maione (West Islip, NY) with four goals and Jake Delillo (Yorktown, NY) who scored three goals. Five NYIT players had two goals a piece and three others each netted a goal.
Jeremy Hobson (Riverhead, NY) and Matt Messina (Sayville, NY) each had three assists in the win, while Paul Flowers (Manchester, England) added two assists.
The Chargers were led by Jones who finished with four goals, while Remo Montalbano (Saugerties, NY) had the other DC goal and an assists.
Joe Cobis (Riverhead, NY) and Owen Smith III (Cornwall, NY) each had an assist in the loss.
NYIT's starting goalie, Dan Goosk (Oceanside, NY) got the win in 45:00 minutes of action with six saves and four goals allowed. Eric Chiraldi (Wantagh, NY) played the last quarter with one save and one goal allowed.
DC's Joe Assante (Weston, NY) went the distance in the loss with nine saves.
With the win, NYIT improves to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the ECC, while the Chargers fall to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the ECC.
Dominican is back in action on Friday, April 13th when they host Seton Hill University in a non-conference game. Game time is 4:00 pm at the DC Lacrosse Field.
