Marist's Winning Streak Snapped By Holy Cross, Penner and Paulie '05
Crusaders Earn 10-6 Triumph
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Marist men's lacrosse team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, as the Red Foxes suffered a 10-6 loss to Holy Cross. Marist was led by junior attackman Nick Hautau (South Salem, N.Y.), who scored a pair of goals in the contest.
The Red Foxes also received a pair of assists from freshman attackman Kevin Zorovich (Massapequa, N.Y.). Senior midfielder Mike McGuire (Lake Grove, N.Y), junior midfielder Dan Needle (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), junior midfielder Pete O'Hara (Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Paul Santavicca (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) also scored for Marist, which fell to 4-6 on the season.
Holy Cross (5-6) jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Santavicca got Marist on the board with 12:20 left in the second period. The Crusaders then extended their lead to 7-1 at the half and 8-1 in the third period before the Red Foxes scored four consecutive goals. However, Marist would draw no closer.
Marist outshot Holy Cross by a 31-29 margin, and the teams each scooped up 29 ground balls apiece. O'Hara paced the Red Foxes with nine shots and five shots on goal, and senior midfielder Keith Detelj (Sayville, N.Y.) had a team-best eight ground balls.
Satuday's game was the final non-league one of the season for the Red Foxes, who will return to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest at Providence.
