LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena men's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-4 victory over conference rival Wagner this afternoon in Loudonville. Matt Girsh (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), a sophomore attackman, led all scorers with eight points on the afternoon. With the victory, Siena (7-4, 4-0) remains perfect in league play.

Senior co-captain Matt Donovan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) opened the scoring fest with 12:31 remaining in the first quarter. Donovan beat his defender and placed one in the back of the net to put Siena on the scoreboard. He finished with three goals and two assists in the contest.

Wagner (0-11, 0-4) retaliated at the 3:11 mark when attackman Andrew Daly posted his sole goal of the contest.

With 27 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Saints defenseman Chris Viviano ( New Hyde Park, N.Y./Chaminade) forced an Evan Shull turnover and got a Siena fast break running. Sophomore midfielder Kenny Mazzone ( Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) pushed the ball down field and delivered a feed to Girsh who connected on his first goal of the contest.

Then just two seconds before the end of the quarter, Girsh picked up a rebound in front of the net and sent it past Seahawks goaltender Ian Gallagher extending the Saints lead to 3-1.

Siena entered the second period and picked up right where they left off. The Saints tallied five consecutive goals thanks to scores from Shaun Dunn (Amityville, N.Y./Chaminade), Girsh, Chris Zarins (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) and Matt Leithead (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac).

The Saints cruised into the half with an 8-2 advantage. Freshman goaltender Brent Herbst (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) delivered a solid performance in net posting four saves over the first 30 minutes.

Siena came out of intermission rejuvenated. They rallied for all eight third quarter goals. With 6:12 on the clock, Anders Lovell (Danville, Calif./San Ramone Valley High/Herkimer CC) posted his first goal of the contest after dishing out two assists in the first half. Soon thereafter, Mazzone notched a score at the 3:52 mark.

Wagner managed two fourth quarter goals, but that would be the closest they would get. The Saints ran off with a 17-4 victory and improve to 3-1 on their home field.

Herbst earned the win in net improving to 5-2 on the season. Goaltenders Brian Cordts (Northport, N.Y./Northport/Suffolk Community College) and David Jalette (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) combined for three second half saves.
