TOWSON, MD - After trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Tigers erupted for five unanswered goals to open the second half as #14 Towson recorded an 11-5 victory over the Hofstra Pride in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship semifinals at Johnny Unitas Stadium Wednesday night. Towson, 9-5 on the season, advances to Saturday's title game and will host Delaware, an 11-7 winner over second-seed Drexel. The Pride end their season at 6-8.

Hofstra was led by senior Ryan Miller with two goals, and freshman Tom Interlicchio with a goal and an assist. Pride goalie Danny Orlando posted nine saves. The Tigers were led by senior Bobby Griebe with four goals while Randall Cooper added three goals. Goalie Matt Antol recorded 12 saves in the Towson cage.

The Pride opened the scoring just 45 seconds into the contest as Interlicchio scored on the run from nine yards out. It was his 14th goal of the year. The Tigers tied the game just 22 seconds later as sophomore Randall Cooper scored his 15th of the season after coming around the left side of Pride goalie Danny Orlando. But the Pride would take the lead back with five seconds remaining in the period as senior Ryan Miller came around the right side of the cage and beat Towson goalie Matt Antol from five yards out.

After a scoreless second quarter, the Tigers erupted for five unanswered goals in the first 9:18 of the third quarter. Timmy Andre started the spurt with his second goal of the year off a run to the goal from the right of the Pride cage 1:36 into the half. Griebe notched his eighth of the season 1:33 later off a pass from Adam Hagelin for Towson's first lead of the game at 3-2. Griebe scored his second of the game, off a pass from behind the cage from Brian Vetter, with 7:09 to play in the third quarter. Cooper then made it 5-2 just 46 seconds later, corralling a high pass from Justin Schneider and firing a bullet from the left of the Hofstra goalie. Griebe ended the spurt and notched the hat-trick just 41 seconds after that on a shot from eight yards off a pass from Jonathan Engelke.

The Pride closed the gap to 6-3 with five minutes remaining in the third as sophomore Anthony Muscarella scored his 12th goal of the season, from 10 yards out, off a pass from Michael Colleluori. The Tigers outshot the Pride 13-2 and picked up 18 ground balls to Hofstra's six in the third quarter.

But the Tigers blew open the game in the fourth, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 5:45 as Griebe, who tallied his fourth of the contest, Nick Williams, and Kyle Batton dented the twine for a 9-3 lead. After Ryan Miller scored his second of the contest for Hofstra with 7:24 to play to cut the deficit to 9-4, Cooper and Kyle Smedley scored 1:20 apart to boost the Towson lead to 11-4. Hofstra freshman Dan Stein closed out the scoring with his 14th goal of the season with 1:59 to play in the contest.

"This is not the way I would have scripted it tonight, but the future of Hofstra lacrosse is bright," Pride first-year coach Seth Tierney stated. "Tomorrow is day one for the 2008 season."

The Tigers outshot Hofstra 34-26, including 24-8 in the second half, and picked up 38 ground balls to the Pride's 24. Towson had 30 ground balls in the second half.
