POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist men's lacrosse head coach Scott Nelson announced the selection of five captains for the 2009 season on Tuesday. Seniors Dan Lang (Northport, N.Y.), Mike Parrinello (Babylon, N.Y.), Ryan Penner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Paul Santavicca (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), and James Taylor III (Brewster, N.Y.) will lead the Red Foxes on the field in 2009.
Lang, Taylor III, and Penner will anchor the Marist defense in 2009. Penner has been a stalwart in goal for the Red Foxes over the last three seasons, starting all but two games. Lang and Taylor III lead a group of six returning defensemen for 2009. Both players had career-highs in ground balls last season with Lang picking up 25 while Taylor III had 16.
Parrinello and Santavicca will lead a group of improving offensive players. Parrinello has been a fixture on the face-off unit for the Red Foxes, scooping up 29 ground balls in the last two seasons to give Marist a leg up offensively. Santavicca has been one of the more consistent contributors for Marist out of the midfield, tallying 26 career goals and 45 career points.
Last season Marist was 3-13 overall and 3-5 in the MAAC Lacrosse League.
