SALISBURY, Md. - Top-ranked Salisbury University breezed by Marymount (Va.) University 27-7 in a Capital Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon before a crowd of 370 at Sea Gull Stadium.
Salisbury (7-0, 3-0 CAC) won its 52nd straight game and its 103rd consecutive game in conference play. The Sea Gulls have not lost a game at home (79-0) or during the regular-season (84-0) since 2003.
Freshman attackman Matt Cannone set a new career-high as he scored a game-high seven goals. SU had 13 different goal-scorers in the 20-goal victory as the Gulls played all 46 players dressed.
Cannone scored the game's first three goals in less then four minutes as the Sea Gulls jumped out early on the Saints. SU scored the game's first 10 goals before Marymount ended the scoring drought at the 1:12 mark in the first quarter on a Chris Wascak (one goal, one assist) goal which was assisted by Tom Anderson (one goal, one assist).
SU outscored Marymount 6-1 in the second quarter as the maroon and gold took a 17-2 lead into the half.
Junior attackman Jake DeLillo (three goals, two assists) had a five-point game followed by senior midfielder Kylor Berkman (three goals, one assist) who tallied four points. Seniors Patrick Bonanno (one assist) and Ryan Curran, sophomore Shawn Zordani (one assist) and Dean Rossi scored two goals apiece. The Sea Gulls received goals from juniors Mike Von Kamecke (one assist), Ryan Finch (one assist) and Mike Winter (one assist) while sophomore Erik Krum and freshmen Tim Lum (one assist) and Sean Hickey scored one goal apiece.
The Sea Gulls outscored the Saints 10-5 in the second half. SU held a 57-33 edge in shots, won 17-of-38 face-offs, scooped up 43 ground balls and made 28-of-31 clears.
Sophomore goalie Johnny Rodriguez (three saves) improved his record to 7-0 in goal for the Sea Gulls. Sophomore Tim Swinburn (three saves), senior Mike Petti (two saves) and junior Joe Evans (one save) split time in the second half.
Marymount was led by Andrew Gaston who scored two goals. Saint goalie Ross Fernandez (nine saves) suffered the loss as he played the first half.
Salisbury will head south to Florida this weekend to prepare for its game against Colorado College on Tuesday, March 17, in Cocoa Beach.
