Saturday's live stream features a showdown between Tri-State powers Yorktown (Westchester) and Chaminade (Long Island).
The host Huskers, who are coming off a 17-6 win over Mahopac on Thursday, enter with a record of 9-1. They are the No. 11 team in the latest MSG Varsity Top 20 Tri-State boys lacrosse rankings.
UMass-bound attackman Nick Mariano leads Yorktown's offense with a team-high 57 points on 34 goals and 23 assists. Mariano — an ace shooter — has racked up a combined 19 points (12G, 7A) in the Huskers' previous two wins over Section 1 foes Mahopac and Somers. Senior middie Brian Prestreau (Stony Brook), who has amassed a team-high 35 goals, is the top dodging threat from up top. At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Rutgers-bound junior attackman Connor Vercruysse (31G, 4A) is a prototypical finisher. Luke Palmadesso (65-of-81) and Danny Manning (56-of-69) alternate at the dot. The Huskers are averaging a Section 1-best 14.4 goals a game.
Trevor Koelsch (Hopkins), Jack Phelan (Rutgers) and Austin Fusco (Syracuse) anchor Yorktown's close defense unit. Tomas Rodriguez is the top option at long-stick middie. Junior Austin Graham, a two-year starter with a save percentage of 59.4, starts in net. The Huskers have relinquished just 5.10 goals a game.
The Flyers, who are coming off a narrow 5-4 win over California powerhouse St. Ignatius Prep on Thursday, enter with a perfect record of 9-0. They are the No. 1 team in MSG Varsity's latest Top 20 Tri-State boys lacrosse rankings.
Virginia-bound attackman Ryan Lukacovic leads Chaminade's offense with a team-high 36 points on 21 goals and 15 assists. James Roberts (13G, 2A) and Jack Tigh (8G, 4A) round out the starting attack unit. Tommy Zenker (Duke) and John McDaid (Furman) are two players to watch in the midfield. Senior Kris Clarke (Hofstra) is dominant at the dot, winning 101-of-137 faceoff attempts this year.
Duke-bound goalie Danny Fowler (73.2 save percentage) anchors the Flyers' defense. He is joined by Tim Muller (Maryland), Brian Dunne (Duke), Tim Burke (Dartmouth) and Jack Kerrigan (Loyola). Chaminade's relinquished the fewest goals per game (3.89) in the CHSAA.
The two teams have played annually dating back to 2004. Chaminade holds a 5-4 edge in the series and has won the last two meetings.
